Oakley Village Pub Ltd. – Aims
A
Oakley Village Pub Ltd a Community Benefit Society!
The Chandos Arms in Oakley is now a community owned pub, after it was purchased via a public works loan by Oakley Parish Council. Oakley Village Pub Ltd a community benefits society now leases the pub from the parish council and then sub leases it to a landlord tenant.
When the Oakley Village Parch Council purchased the Chandos Arms late in 2021 they did this to ensure the pub would remain a community asset and the essential part of the village it always has been. However the parish council did not want to get involved in running the pub so they asked the villagers to form a group to work out how best to run the pub. This group has subsequently become Oakley Village Pub Ltd and registered community benefits society.
One of the first tasks of Oakley Village Pub Ltd. (OVPL) was to identify what the village wanted of its now one and only Public House. This was done by using surveys and canvasing opinion from the village community.
There were many conflicting needs as you would expect from any village community, these included such demands as a child friendly pub with no children and a dog friendly pub with no dogs. As you can imagine it will be hard to please some of the people some of the time, let alone all of the people all of the time.
OVPL came up with a high level mission statement as a means of focusing everything it would do going forward. This mission statement was :-
“To ensure a commercially viable, friendly family-inclusive village pub serving food and drink is open and available to all members of our community in perpetuity”
